Product overview

Dabigatran etexilate is an oral direct thrombin inhibitor used for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and for venous thromboembolism.

Pharmaceutical pellets are small, free-flowing spherical units filled into capsules or compressed into MUPS tablets. Dividing a dose across many pellets gives more reproducible gastric transit and release than a single-unit tablet.

Formulation and release profile

Immediate-release (IR) pellets disintegrate and release the drug promptly, and are often combined with modified-release pellets in the same capsule.

Pharmaceutical applications

  • Capsule filling of dabigatran etexilate ir (ww) pellets for anticoagulant products.
  • Multiparticulate dosage forms where reproducible release matters.
  • Formulation development, scale-up and commercial supply programmes.
